An exceptional performance by young musicians from Heidenheim

Sept. 14, 2026

On Thursday, September 10, 2026, the Junger Kammerchor Ostwürttemberg performed in the large Gothic hall.

Twenty years ago, the JKO gave its first concert in Heidenheim. Heidenheim an der Brenz has been a twin town of Jihlava since 2002. The choir’s regular concert tours take it beyond its own region and Germany to other European countries; over the course of its existence, the JKO has established itself as a cultural representative of the Ostalb and Heidenheim districts. This summer, the choir—which has nearly fifty members—visited Jihlava.

The pieces performed at the concert were selected by the young musicians themselves; they included energetic, pulsating, and sonically powerful works, as well as deeply intimate and meditative compositions.

For the choir members, the message conveyed by each individual piece is also significant. In Siegfried Strobach’s *Jesus, der Retten im Seesturm*—a work that has not been performed for a long time—as well as in Moses Hogan’s *The Battle of Jericho*, the audience witnesses the dramatic culmination—both in terms of narrative and music—of two biblical stories. Meanwhile, Benjamin Britten’s *Hymn to St. Cecilia*, a favorite among the choir, serves as a joyful tribute to Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of church music.
