Festival concluded with a concert in memory of the martyrs from Nové Říše Monastery
Sept. 15, 2026
The 25th edition of the *Mahler Jihlava – Music of Thousands* festival reached its symbolic conclusion on Friday, September 11, at the monastery in Nová Říše. The concert *Requiem for Fallen Brothers*, held in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, served not only as a grand finale to the festival but also as a musical tribute to the Premonstratensian monks of Nová Říše who fell victim to Nazi persecution. Under the direction of conductor Marek Štilec, the performance featured the Czech vocal ensemble Silentium! ensemble, the Austrian Kammerchor Albert Reiter, and the festival’s resident orchestra, Wranitzky Kapelle. Baritone Pavel-Josef Kšica appeared as a soloist. The program included two requiems: *Terezín Ghetto Requiem* by Sylvie Bodorová and the *Requiem in C minor* by Leopold Hofmann.
All the performers rightly earned a long round of applause and a standing ovation. It was a dignified and contemplative conclusion to the 25th edition of the Mahler Jihlava – Music of the Thousands festival, which once again offered outstanding musical projects bringing together performers from various countries throughout this year’s programme.
